corona-princess:

Eugene adjusted his head comfortably in Rapunzel’s lap. “Sure, the more we go, the better you’ll get,” He closed his eyes for a moment, the day had worn him out quite a bit.

He looked so peaceful, half-dozing in her lap. She smiled warmly, not wanting to wake him. The first time she’d looked at him, really looked at him, he’d been asleep. Or knocked out. Same difference, right? She hummed softly, randomly, and played with his hair, sometimes scratching his scalp softly.

Eugene focused on the feel of her hands and the sound of her voice as he drifted somewhere between awake and asleep. He felt so relaxed, right in this moment. He could stay like this forever.

“Your cocoa, priness, sir,” a maid said, extending a silver tray.

“Eugene, there’s marshmallows!” Rapunzel said cheerfully, accepting both cups and setting his beside him.

He opened his eyes, staring at his mug. “Haven’t you had marshmallows in hot cocoa before?”

“Of course I have!” she giggled. “But it’s really yummy and I always had to ask!”

He nodded. “Oh, good. Marshmallows are an important part of hot cocoa”

“I never had them very often growing up,” she said. “I guess they were too hard for— to get.” She hated the look that came in his eye when she mentioned the woman who raised her, and she understood why, but it made her check what she was saying more.

He knew who she was talking about. She had been avoiding the slightest mention of Gothel recently. He knew why. He knew Rapunzel understood his severe dislike of any mention of that horrible woman. However, he tried to keep the topic light, and push away his thoughts of distaste.

“Well, now you can have marshmallows any time you want,” He replied pleasantly.
