“Soon, this is going to be forever,” she murmured. “I love you, Eugene. Always.”
Forever. That one word that always terrified him until just recently. He couldn’t even figure out when exactly he decided maybe forever wasn’t so bad. But he was glad he had.
“Do you… want to try yours on…?” she asked, still feeling shy about it. It was silly, really. He’d obviously proven he was comfortable with the idea, and was even eager to marry her as soon as possible! But still, her heart hammered at the idea of them wearing those matching rings, forever linked in everyone’s eyes and not just her own.
He shrugged. He had already tried it on once when he bought it, to make sure it fit. But if she really wanted him to, he would. “If you want me to… D’you want to put it on me?” he asked, smiling teasingly at her.
She bit her lip, nodding. “Yes, please,” she murmured. This wasn’t it, the actual wedding. But just the two of them, so intimate and private, this was somehow much more special than anything public could be.
He held the ring out to her, then held his left hand out, his fingers separated to make it easier for her. “Okay,” he said, his voice suddenly softer.
It has been a while. How are you?
It has! Where’ve you been, anyway? You missed a lot. Have you talked to Blondie yet? She keeps telling people we’re engaged before I can get the chance to.

Rapunzel looked at the lovely gold ring on her finger, at the topaz and the sun design. It was, in essence, her. She felt tears threaten and blinked, then laughed to show she wasn’t sad at all. “It’s perfect,” she murmured, looking up at him. “You’re perfect.” She drew him down for a deep kiss, feeling like her heart could explode from love and joy.
Here he had been, worrying that she wouldn’t even like them, when he hadn’t needed to at all. She thought everything was perfect! Fuck, he just needed to stop worrying about everything lately, didn’t he?
